NBA TRADE RUMOR: Jefferson for Amare

Marc J. Spears isn't prone to slumming for hits or attention. So when he floated the story that Big Al was being offered for Amar'e, the rumor may be more fact than fiction.

First things first: What's with the " ' " on the Amar'e? I guess I don't care. But what was wrong with just Amare?

Spears is reporting that the Minnesota Timberwolves are in talks to toss Al Jefferson and the sixth pick in next week's NBA Draft to your Phoenix Suns, for Amar'e Stoudemire.

But which team would come out ahead in this trade?

It's hard not to like Minnesota's take, even if they do give up a lottery pick, and even if Stoudemire is a few years older than Jefferson.

With Kevin Love emerging as a decent Power Forward and with Al Jefferson going out with an ACL this past season, it's hard to argue that Minnesota wouldn't come out on top.

Phoenix would take on -- what I like to call -- "Old Knees" Al. I mean, the guy might be 25, but he looks like he's 45. Before he even went down with an ACL, I was telling people he looked like he was wading through water just getting up and down the court. Yikes. Future? I don't think his career is going to be a long one.

Minnesota has the money to make this deal work. They are starting a new era, a post-McHale era, which will allow new GM David Kahn a chance to really bring in some talent to surround Amare.

Stoudemire, like Jefferson is also injury prone. Stoudemire suffered an eye injury last winter that forced him to miss the rest of the season. I don't think Phoenix understands what they have with Amare. But he needs to stay healthy and stay motivated for an entire season.

Personally, Big Al doesn't have the draw that Amare Stoudemire has. I'll take this trade even if we are giving up a lottery pick to do so -- I mean, the Wolves have 2 other first round picks. And how many not so great lottery picks does Minnesota need on one roster?
