The Timberwolves could end up moving up in the draft to get point guard Ricky Rubio. Or Hasheem Thabeet (giving OKC the rights to Rubio).
The rumor I just read about involves the Wolves sending Kevin Love and the 18th pick to the Grizzlies for their 2nd overall pick.
This would allow the Grizzlies the chance to move out of the position of selecting Spanish sensation Rubio since his agent, Dan Fegan, has been threatening to embarrass the franchise should it try to take Rubio. Fegan has no issues with Rubio in Oklahoma City or Sacramento, but he’ll be difficult if the point guard ends up in Memphis.
The trade would allow Minnesota to pick Thabeet at No. 2 and then use Al Jefferson as the team's only "starting" power forward. At the same time, this would also give the Wolves a chance to pick Stephen Curry or Tyreke Evans with the No. 6 overall.
If Memphis trades the pick or passes on Rubio because of his attitude toward playing in Tennessee, a lot of other teams would benefit.
I don't know if I would trade Kevin Love for Hasheem Thabeet, but the fact that Minnesota already has a Kevin Love style big man in Big Al makes me think it's worth the consideration. I mean, who doesn't want two top 10 picks?
