No. 2 PITT, No. 4 UCONN, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 9 Kansas flop in conference tournaments

Four out of the top nine teams in the country were on display last night -- and all of them got upset.
  • Syracuse won in 6 OT's in the second longest game in NCAA history beating UCONN 127-117 -- Three players played more than 60 minutes.
  • West Virginia got Blair into foul trouble early and didn't look back beating Pitt 74-60.
  • Oklahoma St. upended No. 6 Oklahoma on the late FT's from James Anderson beating the Sooners 71-70.
  • Kansas was beat for the first time in the tournament's 13-year history in the first round losing to Baylor 64-71.
The Jayhawks become only the second top-seeded team to lose its opening game at the Big 12 tournament -- Baylor was responsible for the other upset beating Iowa State in 2001. Iowa State still got a two seed, but was then taken down in the first round of the big dance by Belmont.

Kansas may have something to worry about, the other teams for that matter, are probably thankful they were knocked out early.

Yea, everyone wants to win, but... Before the PITT game last night, I almost wrote a blog saying that the winner of the Big East tournament may be the team that loses first -- because they would have a full week of rest and wouldn't have to spend the weekend in a hotel room banging against a top 25 team for a third straight night. Louisville may be thinking they DON'T want the rest, because a strong showing in the conference tournament could equal a No. 1 seed on Sunday. As for UCONN and PITT, they've all but locked up those No. 1 seeds already.

Oklahoma's loss should prevent them from landing a No. 1 seed, but with Kansas taking a dive early, it may not matter. In order for the Sooners to get the No. 1 seed, they'll need UNC to lose early as well as having Michigan State and Memphis fail to capture what look like easy victories in their respective conference tourney's.

The Madness has already begun.
