Fantasy Football CHEat Sheet: WIDE RECEIVERS (7/31/08)

With NFL Player Stocks ready to hit the market floor this afternoon, I have been preparing my own positional rankings so that I can be ready to compare what I have to what PROTRADE puts out. On Monday I posted my top 250, Tuesday my top 20 quarterbacks and yesterady I posted my top 25 running backs. Here is what I think for wide receivers, please let me know where my rankings differ from your analysis. Feedback is always appreciated (some of it, at least).

Rank Player Tm Bye Comment...
1 Randy Moss NE 4 Ranked as the 8th best WR last year, no question he's No. 1 this year
2 Reggie Wayne IND 4 08 marks the official "changing of the guard", Wayne is now main man
3 Terrell Owens DAL 10 Owens has the most drops in the NFL over the past two seasons (27)
4 Torry Holt STL 5 2006 stat line: 93 rec, 1188 yds; 2007 stat line 93 rec, 1189 yds - No typo
5 Braylon Edwards CLE 5 Broke out with 1200 yds, 12 TDs in '07, sky's the limit in '08
6 Chad Johnson CIN 8 Ignore off-field drama, CJ had 93 rec, 1440 yds, 8 TDs in 2007
7 Steve Smith CAR 9 Good for 1000 yards and a half dozen scores, could get a dozen
8 Brandon Marshall DEN 8 07 NFL leader in targets, 5th in catches, 6th in yards, 10th in YPTouch
9 Andre Johnson HOU 8 Played in just 9 games last year, should be back to 100 rec form
10 Marvin Harrison IND 4 After 8 straight 1100+ yd/double-digit scoring seasons, just 247/1 in '07
11 Anquan Boldin ARI 7 Has talent, has been productive... it's time for a breakout season
12 Larry Fitzgerald ARI 7 Exactly 100 receptions and 10 touchdowns last year
13 Roy Williams DET 4 836 yards in '07 was down from 1310 in '06, should be better in '08
14 Plaxico Burress NYG 4 Plax has the potential to put up "top 5" type numbers
15 Marques Colston NO 9 Colston's #'s improved from his rookie season, 3rd year could be huge
16 T.J. Houshmandzadeh CIN 8 Started '07 with 8 straight games scoring at least 1 TD
17 Hines Ward PIT 6 Ward has scored six or more TDs in five of the last six seasons
18 Santonio Holmes PIT 6 NFL's top big-play guy in '07, led league with 18.1 yards per catch
19 Greg Jennings GB 8 Whoever drafted Jennings looked smart, he had 12 TDs in 13 games
20 Lee Evans BUF 6 Exactly 55 receptions and 5 touchdowns in '07, can he double it in '08?
21 Wes Welker NE 4 3rd year was the charm (112 rec, 1175 yds, 8 TDs), can he duplicate?
22 Donald Driver GB 8 Driver had just 122 targets in '07, down from 167 in '06
23 Bernard Berrian MIN 8 Berrian will make Tavaris Jackson look decent, I expect 1000 yds/ 10 TDs
24 Calvin Johnson DET 4 Cal hopes to improve on his rookie numbers (48 rec, 756 yds, 4 TDs)
25 Javon Walker OAK 5 A goose-egg in the TD category last year plus a move to OAK? Avoid
26 Santana Moss WAS 10 He's not young. A hammy in '06 and a groin in '07 has burdened Moss
27 Patrick Crayton DAL 10 7 TDs in '07, starting opposite TO should make him more productive
28 Dwyane Bowe KC 6 Plenty of talent, but the biggest problem for Bowe will be his QB
29 Jerricho Cotchery NYJ 5 If TD numbers improve, could be a top 20 WR, but for sure Jets No. 1
30 Laveranues Coles NYJ 5 Has potential for 75 catches 1000 yards and 6 TDs, but will he?

Fantasy Football CHEat Sheet: RUNNING BACKS (7/30/08)

With the NFL Team IPO's already being traded on market and players hitting the floor tomorrow afternoon, I've decided to post my positional rankings (yesterday quarterbacks, wide-outs tomorrow). Let me know what you think, your feedback is appreciated (some of it at least).

Rank Player Tm Bye Comment...
1 LaDainian Tomlinson SD 9 15 TDs last year wasn't bad, unless it is compared to his record 28 in '06
2 Brian Westbrook PHI 7 Always good for a half dozen running TDs and a couple more catching
3 Adrian Peterson MIN 8 AP will probably go No. 2 overall in most drafts, durability is a concern
4 Steven Jackson STL 5 Fantasy owners hope to get 1500 yards and 13 TDs, not 1000 and 5
5 Joseph Addai IND 4 Back-to-back seasons of 1000 yards and 40 receptions to start NFL career
6 Frank Gore SF 9 Solid runner, potential to score 15 times and rush for 1500 yards
7 Marion Barber DAL 10 As "starter" could be even more deadly, should eclipse 1000 yards
8 Larry Johnson KC 6 2005 stat line: 1750 yds, 20 TDs; 2006 stat line: 1789 yds, 17 TDs
9 Reggie Bush NO 9 Hasn't proved it yet, maybe returning punts will boost his fantasy value
10 Clinton Portis WAS 10 Boasted career highs in receptions (47) and receiving yds (389) in '07
11 Laurence Maroney NE 4 The Patriots needs to give Maroney more love on the goal line.
12 Jamal Lewis CLE 5 Lewis is the most productive runner not in the top 10
13 Rudi Johnson CIN 8 After three straight 1300 yard/ 12 TD seasons, '07 was un-Rudi like
14 Ryan Grant GB 8 If holdout lingers, it could affect his number of carries in early weeks
15 Marshawn Lynch BUF 6 Solid rookie season (1115 yds, 7 TDs), but the Bills??? Yikes.
16 Willis McGahee BAL 10 Offensive line is big question, McGahee's ability is not
17 Willie Parker PIT 6 13 TDs in '06, only 4 in '07... Yardage is never an issue though
18 Edgerrin James ARI 7 Zone-blocking schemes could help the 30 year old
19 Maurice Drew JAC 7 It's hard to argue against Drew's YPC and TD totals, could be a sleeper
20 Brandon Jacobs NYG 4 With a departed Shockey, Jacobs might score double digit TDs
21 Earnest Graham TB 10 Broke out last year with 10 scores, could top 1000 yards rushing in '08
22 Ronnie Brown MIA 4 Practiced in full pads Sunday, first time since tearing ACL last October
23 Michael Turner ATL 7 May find huge numbers as the go-to guy in Atlanta
24 Thomas Jones NYJ 5 1 TD in '07 keeps him from the top 20, Jones might be slowing down
25 Julius Jones SEA 4 Jones needs to do his best SA impression and outshine Maurice Morris

Fantasy Football CHEat Sheet: QUARTERBACKS (7/29/08)

With the NFL IPO's ready to hit the market this week, I've decided to begin my fantasy draft preperation with some positional rankings. I posted my top 250 yesterday and after today's post of my top 20 quarterbacks, I'm going to post my top 25 running backs tomorrow and top 30 wide receivers on Thursday. Let me know what you think, your feedback is appreciated (some of it at least).

Rank Player Tm Bye Comment...
1 Tom Brady NE 4 Records last year, should be more of the same in '08
2 Peyton Manning IND 4 30 + TD passes and 4000+ yards is the standard
3 Carson Palmer CIN 8 Plenty of talent + plenty of talented wideouts = 3rd best QB
4 Tony Romo DAL 10 Romo will benefit from fast paced offense, TO helps
5 Drew Brees NO 9 4400 yards in back-to-back seasons, Brees is terribly underrated
6 Ben Roethlisberger PIT 6 Career best 32 TD tosses last year, don't overlook Big Ben
7 Marc Bulger STL 5 Bulger struggled last year, should be better with less injuries in '08
8 Philip Rivers SD 9 30 TD potential, just needs to keep his head in the game
9 Eli Manning NYG 4 Could be a great sleeper, but are his pass catchers good enough?
10 Matt Schaub HOU 8 Schaub could break-out this year
11 Derek Anderson CLE 5 Third year stud threw for 29 TDs in '07, I'm still skeptical
12 Donovan McNabb PHI 7 A completely recovered McNabb could make him a top 10 QB
13 Vince Young TEN 6 Young needs to bounce back from a slumpy second season
14 Jon Kitna DET 4 Hard to argue against 2nd straight 4000+ yard season
15 Matt Hasselbeck SEA 4 Career high TD passes in '07 (28), has he maxed out?
16 Jay Cutler DEN 8 20 TDs was a solid sophomore campaign, should produce again
17 David Garrard JAC 7 Solid game controlling QB, but might not produce great fantasy #'s
18 Jake Delhomme CAR 9 Delhomme is a toss-up, at 33 he could be way past his '04 prime
19 Aaron Rodgers GB 8 Rodgers has thrown 1 TD pass, just 441 less than Favre
20 Alex Smith SF 9 Smith sat out 10 games in '07, should have a career best year
