AT&T National Brings Out Golf's Best (7/4/07)

Tiger Woods hosts the AT&T National which contains a stellar field of golfers including Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Adam Scott.

In Fantasy Golf, you are only allowed to use a golfer for 10 tournaments throughout the season. This weekend might be a good time to skip starting the best golfers and look for the second best. Saving your best golfers like Tiger, Phil, Vijay and Furyk will allow you to use them later during the stretch run of the season. ProTrade isn't the same. Getting in on the Tiger, Phil or Furyk stocks now rather than during the final round on Sunday is a no-brainer.

If Tiger, Vijay, Adam Scott or any of the big names are on the top of the leaderboard, their stock prices will rise. It is worth the medium-term investment. Buying these players allows you to monitor which way they are moving. If you bought Vijay and his % is in the green, then he bogies his first 3 holes - sell and short. You might get that % going the other way as well.

The last time that this course was used for a tour event was the 2005 Booz Allen Classic - where Adam Scott finished 2nd. Scott, who is RotoWire.com's Greg Vara's pick to win this weekend, has a tendency to play really well the weekend before a Major event. I've taken advantage of this in Fantasy Golf and it has paid off. The weekend before The Masters, Scott won the Shell Houston Open. Scott finished 7th in the Stanford St. Jude Championship before missing the cut in the US Open.

Jim Furyk has a great chance of playing in the final group on Sunday. He has 3 top 3's and 6 top 10's. Most of the ProTrade community thought that he would get his first win of the year last weekend at the Buick Open, but he fell short (and made a good short). I'm thinking that his first win could be this weekend.

Greg Vara likes Brandt Snedeker, Scott Verplank and Justin Rose. He's avoiding Woods and Mickelson. Greg also doesn't like Trevor Immelman. He writes that Immelman has had a pretty good year, but has struggled over his last 5 events, missing the cut 4 times and finishing 31st.

KJ Choi and Anthony Kim are players to keep your eye on this weekend. After winning the Memorial Tournament, Choi disappointedly missed the cut at the US Open. It wouldn't surprise me to see Choi near the top of the leaderboard all weekend. Anthony Kim's last tournament was the US Open where he finished T20, he could make a run at winning this weekend. I also like Camilo Villegas because he's priced low and he does a TV commercial with Deion Sanders.

The Congressional Country Club is located in Bethesda, Maryland. It played host to the 1997 US Open. The course is difficult, but players should be able to score under par. My prediction is that the winner will be around 5 or 6 under after the final round.

The weather reports out of Bethesda are calling for rain. Thursday's round might be delayed or postponed because according to Weather on MSN - there is a good chance of rain for Thursday and a slight chance of rain on Friday.
