Going Traveling, Travelers Championship (June 20, 2007)

Tiger, Phil, Scott, Ogilvy, Goosen, Furyk and Els are all too good to play for a measly $6 million purse and $1.08 million for a win ($288,000 more than last year).

Who needs those chumps anyway. The Travelers Championship still has Vijay Singh, David Toms, Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink, Justin Rose and Padraig Harrington.

I guess I'll let Mickelson slide considering he was the winner in 2001 and 2002 - he's got a wrist injury. And Tiger has a new baby and a billion dollars, he can chill. But where are these other guys? Els and Goosen used to be good, they need to come in and take over these tournaments with big names sitting out.

Cromwell, Connecticut is supposed to have great weather this weekend. There is a 30% chance of rain Thursday night, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday all are projected to be clear and sunny.

Stewart Cink seems to be the sexy pick this week. He's #1 on RotoWire.com's Greg Vara's "Players to Consider". Greg is taking Cink because he's "due" and "he's played well at this event, won it in '97". I would like to remind Greg that it is 2007 and that Cink's win was 10 years ago.

Greg does mention David Toms and Vijay Singh which are obvious "should win or finish in the top 10" golfers. These two guys should be watched closely on Sunday. If they are expected to win, and don't - you can predict a big drop in price.

Justin Rose is a great look for the weekend. He controlled himself well at Oakmont but finished T10 after a final round 76. Rose wants to cleanse his sour taste at The Travelers. Rose has been perfect this season making the cut in all 6 tournaments he's entered. He's also finished in the top 10 in 4 of the 6. Rose, who finished tied for 5th at The Masters, is my favorite for the win. The winner of the Travelers Championship earns 25,000 FedEx Cup points.
